MICHAEL K. YORK

RESIDENTIAL CONTRACTOR · DESIGNER

Mike is the owner and operator of The Coastal Cottage Company.  Fresh out of college, he moved to the Outer Banks met his wife Mary and has called it home ever since.  Mike, along with his wife and two children reside in Kitty Hawk, NC.

Mike’s career in the residential construction industry began back in 1994 when he opened York Residential Design. Since inception,  he has been responsible for developing architectural plans and construction details for nearly 300 Outer Banks building projects. From 2005-2007, Mike assisted a local Structural Engineering firm with their foundation and construction detailing. These documents included steel fabrication drawings, foundation plans for FEMA house relocations, marine construction details and structural bracing design and details.

Feeling that his design talent and construction knowledge would be highly beneficial to the customer, at the beginning of 2009 Mike decided to become more involved with the construction process. In 2010, he began working with his long time friend, O.C. Fulcher. O.C. is the owner of Fulcher Homes, Inc. and holds one of the oldest contractor licenses on the Outer Banks. During his time working with O.C., he was responsible for architectural design, job site superintendent and project coordination.

Mike prides himself on his ability to think outside the box and to develop solutions to issues and problems which might arise during planning and construction. He is mechanically minded and often develops creative solutions to engineering and construction issues. He is highly skilled, well organized, creative and budget conscious.  Mike has the knowledge and experience to make your next project a success.


PAUL C. GSELL

SUPERINTENDENT

Paul’s background includes over 25 years in the residential construction industry in both building and designing custom homes. He was the owner and operator of a residential design-build construction company for over 12 years. Throughout this time he gained extensive experience in residential design, estimating, project management, proper construction practices, sales and customer service. His company completed projects that included custom homes, additions, kitchen and bath remodels and decks. He would typically take his clients from design all the way through to completed construction.

After selling his company in 2012, he worked for a large production home builder. He worked in the engineering department where he produced plans that were code compliant in four states. He also used CAD software to create 3-D renderings of the model homes to be used in advertising literature and websites. Paul has also done work as a subcontractor for other large builders where his responsibilities included the development and standardization of all home models offered.

Paul moved to the area from South Central Pennsylvania in 2017 and has worked as the superintendent for The Coastal Cottage Company since his arrival. He is responsible for all out of office construction management. He works closely with our dedicated subcontractor base and vendors to ensure all work is done correctly, on schedule and to the highest standards of construction. Paul is known for his attention to detail, which can be seen in our beautiful homes.


H. BETH FLEMING

INTERIOR DESIGNER · PROJECT ASSISTANT

Beth Fleming is an interior designer who lives in Moyock, North Carolina. After graduating from Currituck County High School, she moved onto Tidewater Community College to begin the Interior Design program. She graduated in May of 2019 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Interior Design. After graduation she stepped right into her position with The Coastal Cottage Company.

While her interest has always been interior design, she has worked in a few different fields including: Retail customer service, education research, and the legal field. She gained a lot of knowledge and many skills while enjoying her time in those positions, however, her passion will always be anything that involves interior design and helping clients make their space feel like a place they belong.

Beth’s duties with The Coastal Cottage Company include architectural  and interior design, product and material selections, client relations, social media, project estimating, material takeoffs and procurement, permitting, and providing site specifications for subcontractors. Beth is regimented yet creatively driven, never shying to step outside of the box. These attributes help her make the client’s vision become an outstanding reality in a time and cost efficient manner.


MARY E. YORK

ADMINISTRATION · SOCIAL MEDIA

Having grown up in a Navy family, Mary had the opportunity  to live in many coastal areas; Chesapeake-Virginia, Oahu-Hawaii, Wales-England, Scotch Plains & Toms River-New Jersey, Florida Keys-Florida and Lewes-Delaware.

She graduated from Toms River High School East in Toms River, NJ. Upon graduation, she moved to the Outer Banks and met her husband Michael.  Along with their two daughters, they currently reside in Kitty Hawk, NC.

Mary worked in the Outer Banks home rental industry from 1994 to 2001 as a customer service representative and a maintenance coordinator. After leaving the rental industry, in 2001 she started a career in the residential construction industry as an administrative assistant for a local Outer Banks builder.  She worked in the building industry for 6 years where her duties consisted of construction and maintenance coordination, customer correspondence, on-site customer relations, managing subcontractor bids and negation’s, and contract documentation. From 2008-2013, Mary worked for a local Civil Engineering Firm as an engineering coordinator. Her duties included customer relations, social media, accounts receivables, county submittals and job coordination.
