Outer Banks October Events 2026: 7 Things to Do This Fall

October is one of our favorite times of year on the Outer Banks. The summer crowds begin to thin out, the temperatures cool down, and there are still plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy the beach.

It also happens to be one of the busiest months for local festivals and events. Whether you live here year-round, own a home on the Outer Banks, or are planning a fall visit, here are seven things to do on the Outer Banks this October.

1. Island Farm Pumpkin Patch Saturdays

October 3, 10, 17 & 24 | Manteo

It wouldn’t feel like October without a trip to the pumpkin patch. Island Farm brings a little fall tradition to the coast with its annual Pumpkin Patch Saturdays.

Pick out a pumpkin, enjoy seasonal activities, explore the historic farm, and spend a fall morning on Roanoke Island. It’s an especially fun stop for families with kids.

2. Outer Banks Parade of Homes

October 8–10 | Corolla to Avon

If you enjoy architecture, coastal home design, or simply seeing what’s being built around the Outer Banks, the annual Parade of Homes is worth adding to your October calendar.

This year’s event includes new construction, residential remodels, and commercial renovations throughout the Outer Banks. Visitors can tour participating properties and get a firsthand look at different layouts, materials, finishes, and coastal building ideas.

As local builders, we’re always interested in seeing the different ways homes on the Outer Banks respond to our unique coastal environment and lifestyle.

3. Duck Jazz Festival

October 10–11 | Duck Town Park

The Duck Jazz Festival has become an Outer Banks fall tradition. Held at Duck Town Park along the Currituck Sound, the free festival brings live jazz and a laid-back atmosphere to one of the prettiest spots in Duck.

Bring a blanket or chair, grab something to eat nearby, and make a day of it.

4. Outer Banks Bluegrass Island Festival

October 14–17 | Roanoke Island Festival Park, Manteo

For several days in October, bluegrass takes over the waterfront in downtown Manteo.

The Outer Banks Bluegrass Island Festival brings musicians and bluegrass fans together at Roanoke Island Festival Park, with the sound and waterfront setting making this one of the area’s signature fall music events.

If you’re already heading to Manteo, leave yourself some extra time to walk the waterfront and explore downtown.

5. Outer Banks Seafood Festival

October 17 | Nags Head

Few events feel more Outer Banks than this one.

The Outer Banks Seafood Festival celebrates the local commercial fishing community and the seafood traditions that are such an important part of life here. Expect local seafood, live music, vendors, educational exhibits, and plenty happening throughout the day.

The 2026 festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head.

Come hungry.

6. OBX Brewtag

October 24 | Nags Head

This one is hard to explain until you’ve seen it.

Teams build homemade flying contraptions and launch empty keg barrels from a 20-foot-high platform to see whose will fly the farthest.

The 10th Annual OBX Brewtag takes place at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head and also includes live music, food, a beer garden, and activities for kids. General admission is free.

It’s quirky, local, and definitely not something you’ll find everywhere.

7. A Night of 1,587 Pumpkins

October 30 | The Elizabethan Gardens, Manteo

Finish the month with one of the Outer Banks’ most unique Halloween traditions.

The Elizabethan Gardens celebrates the season with 1,587 glowing jack-o’-lanterns throughout the gardens on Roanoke Island. Costumes, trick-or-treating, seasonal treats, and the illuminated pumpkin displays make this a fun way to celebrate Halloween weekend on the Outer Banks.

Fall Is a Pretty Great Time to Be on the Outer Banks

Summer may get most of the attention, but October shows a completely different side of the Outer Banks. Cooler days, fewer crowds, and a calendar full of local events make fall a great time to experience the community beyond the beach.

For those of us lucky enough to call the Outer Banks home, it’s also a reminder of why we love living and building here.
